About Appetizer Restaurant

Alfonso Artiano left the Island of Ischia (near Capri and Naples) in 1955 to join his father in San Pedro. After working in the restaurant business for several years, his dream of opening his own restaurant was realized in 1972 when he opened the first Appetizer on Deep Valley Drive and later in 1976 when he opened the second Appetizer in the Hughes market on Hawthorne Blvd.

Al oversees a busy kitchen whether it be when popular sandwiches are being prepared or in the preparation of Italian specialties made from Mama Lucy's own recipes.

When The Appetizer first opened many of the customers were youngsters who stopped by after visiting the library. They, in turn, told their parents - word of mouth and customer satisfaction have been most effective for Al Artiano. Those young people (now many with children of their own), their parents and friends still return for the well-prepared, tasty dishes served seven days a week.

Catering and take-out service are also popular features of The Appetizer.
